Write Fiction For “The People’s Friend”
“The People’s Friend” has been the home of great fiction throughout its 150 years, but while many people say they’d love to be a writer, often they’re not sure how to get started.
Now, as part of the Edinburgh International Magazine Festival 2019, here’s your chance to learn from the experts at “The People’s Friend’s” hands-on story writing workshop. Whether you’re a complete beginner or already have some experience, you’ll enjoy every minute of learning from our experts at this Scottish PPA Award-winning full-day workshop.
Shirley Blair is Commissioning Fiction Editor of the “Friend” and a published author in her own right. She loves to help promising new writers develop their skills and can call on more than forty years’ experience in magazine fiction to guide your stories to success.
Regular “Friend” writer Kate Blackadder remembers the thrill when her first “Friend” story was published in 2006. She thinks having a word limit is great writing discipline and her favourite part of the writing process is when she feels her characters coming to life. She’ll offer lots of practical advice and tips, including her number one: to read your work aloud.
Full-day workshop (10am-4pm), £90 inc fees.
